The top component comes out and I was able to put some river rock at the bottom to help balance it out as I wanted to put some tall plants inside the upper portion. The price is right for something of this quality. It is a plastic or resin container, however this makes it easier for me to move around. The sides are thick, and the construction is solid. I believe they will do very well to stand up to the elements. Great placement of the drain holes in both the upper and bottom section for living plants. Super happy with these! The only confusing thing about installing them was that one batch labeled interior/exterior incorrectly but it was pretty easy to figure out when the sides didnt align.
