When I ordered this item I wasn't sure it would be strong enough to work for what I wanted but it is perfect. Of course I didn't use it as a bookshelf. I put it in a very small closet and turned it into a cupboard. The only tricky part was it had to be put together inside the closet and you had to be on the outside. It took some work but it is worth it. Not only is it strong enough to hold everything I placed on it but it's such a pleasant surprise for anyone opening the cupboard to find something.
