Edit/Update for anyone else having this issue: The instructions tell you to pair with a bluetooth "Triones" and to install happy lighting. Even provides the qr code in the book to install this app. It seems that this vendor maybe changed their light strips to a different brand. It took me four hours by myself to put together but the instructions were ok and all the hardware was there. Construction of the wood parts was good. It's very solid and I love having the trundle option under the bed. Just remember that you need a thinner mattress for the trundle pull out than for the top bed.
