The first time we assembled the bench, the screws went right through the wood top of the bench. Wayfair's customer service was incredibly responsive and apologetic, and sent out an entire new top, base, and assembly parts within a few weeks. The first problem seemed to be a result of incorrect assembly instructions with the longer screws indicated for use when it should have been the shorter screws. The replacement pieces still had the incorrect assembly instructions, but this time, we knew from experience to ignore the instructions and use the shorter screws for attaching the top to the base..
