I was concerned about the weight of this floating shelf. It seemed strange to mount something so heavy to a wall since most of the items I will display on it won't weigh as much as the shelf on its own. There is a metal mounting bracket that you at first mount on the wall using the included screws. I had to screw holes in this bracket to match the width of the studs in the wall I planned to mount it to. Once the bracket was mounted on the wall, the shelf slides onto the lip easily. I am using this shelf as a makeshift mantel. The shelf is quite heavy and it feels like petrified wood. Overall it is a very attractive shelf and makes for an attractive fireplace mantel.. Richard. The shelves are solid wood, but not a single piece of solid wood. Rather, each shelf in the shelf set I received has two pieces of wood glued together. They’re good looking shelves. They come with multiple methods to mount the shelves whether you’re mounting your studs or to drywall, there’s wall anchors and lag bolts both to get the job done. I docked one star because they’re not made with the highest craftsmanship. The cleat is tacked together haphazardly. The cleat and the facade both are a tiny bit lopsided making it just a bit more difficult to level a shelf and align adjacent shelves. However once installation is complete, and frankly once you’ve lucked out on getting them straight and orderly, they do look quite good and they feel sturdy. These shelves are solid, sturdy and true to the color you see online. I can’t speak to how easy they are to install, because we are waiting for the room to be painted before we install them.
