This traditional weather station is both a work of art and an instrument at home in any fine study, library, office, or upscale restaurant. The rich, wood framed classic weather station measures barometric pressure (liquid). The antique weather station displays an air of quality and accuracy one would expect with a fine, handcrafted weather instrument from Ambient Weather. The concept that 'decreasing atmospheric pressure predicts stormy weather' was postulated by Lucien Video and it's the basis for a weather prediction device called a storm glass or liquid barometer. It consists of a glass container with a sealed body, half-filled with water. A narrow spout connects to the body below the water level and rises above the water level, where it is open to the atmosphere. When the air pressure is lower than it was at the time the body was sealed, the water level in the spout will rise above the water level in the body and when the air pressure is higher, the water level in the spout will drop below the water level in the body. Also includes a comfort meter, which measures temperature and humidity, and a comfort zone indicator.

I bought this barometer as part of a three instrument set which included the tide clock and cabin comfort.meter. After adjusting the barometric pressure to local conditions, I checked against airport barometer settings on a daily basis to determine accuracy. The readings are dead on accurate day after day. I just love it! We needed a clock/thermometer combo for our patio that could be seen from the house (my husbands desk looks out on the patio) and be heavy enough that it wouldn't fly off when things get windy where we live. (We get micro-bursts as well as high MPH winds where we live...) I also wanted something good looking. This hit all the marks, was a great value for what it is, plus it has a Hygrometer, which tracks humidity. The back of the unit "key holes" sit down over the screw heads and the clock itself is weighty and broad. Between both of those features, I expect it will stay put even in the windiest conditions we get around here. I was surprised at the quality versus price. I found this unit very accurate in the readings compared to various other sources. I bought this unit together with the matching barometer and liked the looks so much that I followed my original order with an order for the matching clock.
