Bells have been used throughout the ages to accompany dance, to provide comfort and to warn of possible danger. The Chinese were the first to control the pitch or note of a bell, making it possible for them to play tunes. Soon bells were being used to accompany worship. On new year's eve the bells in Buddhist temples are rung 108 times, once for each of the 108 worldly desires. In the East, bells have become very important and are often decorated with significant symbols. For centuries, tuned bells have been suspended in homes and temples to ward off evil and attract good luck and prosperity. Temple bells are inspired by this ancient bells and work in harmony with the wind to create gentle, soothing tones. This chime is designed to hang from a string loop, rather than an o-ring.

A graceful design reminiscent of calligraphy, this gong captures the romance and splendor of the Far East. Inspired by traditional Asian design, their Emperor Series offers wonderful sound and is intended to reflect balance, harmony, grace, and beauty. Chinese instrument makers have made gongs for thousands of years and are deserving of their reputation of making the best in the world. Many processes go into creating the special sound of a Chinese Gong, including fine toning as a result of hand-hammering. In Buddhism, the gong is sounded at the start and end of each day. In Chinese temples, gongs are struck 108 times because it's believed that sentient beings have 108 types of worries. The teaching is this upon hearing the gong, worries will cease, and wisdom will grow. Nothing can transport them to another time and place quite like the brilliant resonance of a gong. For over a thousand years, gongs of various types have played an important role in both the religious and secular music of many Asian cultures. Gongs were sounded to chase away evil spirits, warn of invading armies, heal the sick, and invoke the spirits of the dead. To be touched by a gong was said to bring happiness and strength. Today, this revered instrument of warriors, emperors, princes, and priests adds a special aura to any setting. Handcrafted using traditional methods, this collection brings the ancient wonders of the Far East home.

It's really cute, and the right size if you have a small space. The tone is soothing, but I gave it four stars as it takes a gush of wind to really be able to hear it. That could be the placement of where I have it, so I don't want to fault it too much. . Joanne. San Francisco, CA. Wed Sep 16 2020

A unique sculpture designed to add beauty and charm to the home or garden. Modeled after the original Garden Bells, the Encore Garden Bells add a touch of whimsy to the garden. This bell is not powered by the wind; they are people and animal powered! Put birdseed in the bell cups the action of the birds makes the bells move and ring or place the bells close to a walkway so people walking by brush up against the bells and make them ring your guests won't be able to resist announcing their arrival that way!

Very lovely looking chimes but they are too stiff to chime - even in strong winds. Base is a little light for the weight of the top. Melanie. Summit, NJ. Wed Aug 12 2026
