Flaming June is a painting by Sir Frederic Leighton, produced in 1895. Painted with oil paints on a 47-by-47-inch (1,200 mm × 1,200 mm) square canvas, it is widely considered to be Leighton's magnum opus, showing his classicist nature. It is thought that the woman portrayed alludes to the figures of sleeping nymphs and naiads the Greeks often sculpted. Flaming June disappeared from view in the early 1900s and was rediscovered only in the 1960s. It was auctioned shortly after, during a period of time known to be difficult for selling Victorian era paintings, where it failed to sell for its low reserve price of US$140 (the equivalent of $1,126 in modern prices). After the auction, it was promptly purchased by the Museo de Arte de Ponce in Ponce, Puerto Rico, where it currently resides.

Pavonia means peacock in Italian and in this painting, Leighton brilliantly compares the resplendent beauty of one of his models, Nanna Risi, to the showy splendor of a peacock. Leighton is renowned for the dreamlike vividness and exotic symbolism in his Pre-Raphaelite works and the beauty of his Victorian models. As an English Academic and classical artist, Leighton drew inspiration from classical art, mythology, and legends. The authentic stretched canvas replica painting captures the original work's texture, depth of color, and even its subtle brushstrokes, which are applied by hand. This replica European style, bright gold-toned, ribbed frame is cast in quality designer resin with an acanthus leaf and floret border that draws the eye toward the beautiful image. Proudly printed and framed in the USA using imported molding.

Truly gorgeous oil painting on canvas with a beautiful gold frame. Wayfair never disappoints and quick shipping, love it…. Joyce. Wyandotte, MI. Fri Feb 14 2025

Forsaken passion trembles within this riveting watercolor painting by Victorian artist, Burton. This richly detailed Gothic work is an illustration of forbidden love from the Danish ballad of Hellelil and Hildebrand, prince of Engellend. Pre-Raphaelite in style, the brilliant intense hue of this Medieval image is similar to that of an oil painting. The painting is smaller than I had envisioned, but that's my fault. The dimensions were for the picture and the frame; I should have realized that. However, my husband thinks it's the perfect size for a wall in our living room. It replaced a framed photo of the Grand Canyon that we no longer noticed, and this Victorian watercolor is more apropos for our Arts & Crafts decor. Now I'm jonesing for "La Belle Dame Sans Merci," but that will have to wait due to the rising cost of living.. Art Nouveau. Flagstaff. Thu Jan 01 2026

This product is beautiful- Claude Monet is one of my favorite painters and I have been looking for some nice art work for my living room so this painting caught my eye. It was the right size I was looking for. However, one downside is that the frame broke while in transit so the frame could improve in quality but also, the packaging was not sufficient. If the painting was protected with bubble wrap I think it would have survived the journey. I notified Wayfair of the damaged product and they sent a new one and this time it was all intact. I received the new one within a week and now enjoying looking at this picture displayed on my living room wall. Trying to go for a coastal look in my house and I think this is a nice starting point..
