There is peeling laminate on both, and there are areas in which the stain is too dark (and looks like freckles), and where there is very little stain present. Very easy to put to together. It is a very sturdy bedframe for the price. The “espresso” color is fairly accurate in person vs what you see online in the pictures. The only reason we give this bedframe 4 stars is because one of the posts came damaged as seen in the second picture. Additionally, instructions were pretty straightforward. There was one moment where it isn’t straightforward, as it doesn’t mention there is not a pre drilled hole for a screw for the middle portion of the frame. The bed frame has been pretty sturdy since we put it together, and had no issues putting our premium king sized mattress on it. I had been watching this headboard for a long time. I finally ordered and it was an open box so I saved even more. This is a solid and sturdy headboard and we love it. I have added pics so you can truly see the color and what to expect. I was nervous to order but since I planned to possibly paint this myself if the color is not what I wanted I went ahead and did it. Love the look and the size. It is not white white.
