This desk is an excellent value at this price point. Pressed wood, but looks realistic enough. It’s quite solid and well made. It does take quite a bit of time to put together but I wouldn’t say it was hard. The directions had a lot of detail and were simple to follow. I put it together mostly alone over two days (desk one day, hutch the next). My only complaint is the picture on Wayfair is misleading in color. It is not a true grey as I had hoped. They are beautiful, substantial, have tons of storage, and feel very sturdy. The white finish with the darker wood top looks even better in person. Fair warning though assembly is a PROJECT. The first desk took us about 5 hours, and even knowing exactly what we were doing, the second still took about 4 hours. I would absolutely recommend having two people, plenty of space, and a whole lot of patience. That being said, the instruction manual was surprisingly clear and helpful. There are simply a LOT of pieces and steps involved. Once assembled, though Worth it. They look like much more expensive pieces of furniture and completely transformed our homeschool room. I especially love all of the drawers, cabinets, shelving, and built-in desktop outlets. If you’re willing to survive the assembly process, I highly recommend them. When the package arrived I unpacked all the items snd noticed one item cracked and I was so disappointed plus I really didn’t want to repack all the pieces into the box. I went to the Wayfair Help area and although I had to take a lot of pictures, I was able to get a new piece mailed to me. Communication kept me informed of the shipment. The desk itself took a bit of time to put together for me and if time is a constraint, I would hire someone else to do it. The extra phone plugs are handy and the lights can be white or blue, which really make it nice so don’t buy a lamp to go along with the desk. After assembly great looking desk. My 15 year old son assembled in about 2 hours. He took his time but had no difficulty. The desk was bought for him. There was small scratch/indention on top hutch. Look for screws outside of the interior box as our box was open and the screw package fell out as we opened the bigger box but did find it eventually while clearing up the packaging! I really love this piece as it is better than the 1st 'craft center' (that is how I use it) I purchased a few years ago which was ruined by a flood in our basement (no fault of Wayfair of course)! It has more style with the sliding drawers, costs a lot less, but did not come with a separate file cabinet like the 1st, but do not need it as this one has 2 file drawers. And the best part, is it has a electric recepitcal on the top of the desk for a lamp or another appliance if needed. And it fits in my ensuite walk-in closet (which is my little craft room). Looks great! It’s very sturdy. The black looks really nice. Took my husband two hours to put together but he wasn’t rushing. The drawers open smoothly but they do make slight sound as it sort of scrapes along the metal. The drawers don’t have stoppers so COULD fall on toes BUT they’re so deep that I can’t imagine that happening. We do plan to remedy that in some way because it for our 7yo son, but not necessary for older kids or adults. chair opening is very large which makes it nice for widercrossed-legged chairs.
