There is peeling laminate on both, and there are areas in which the stain is too dark (and looks like freckles), and where there is very little stain present. Beautiful nightstand just as described. Colour is a match to the display picture. Drawers are nice and deep as well as soft close. Felt lined top drawer. No assembly besides attaching the legs. Of note, there's 20 lbs of packaging - very securely packaged no damage with shipping (be careful with moving since it's a heavy shipment - 70lbs) Small cons: 1) There is some off gassing from the product which has taken a couple weeks to decrease in intensity. It may be best to let it air out in an open area before moving to bedroom. 2) A rubber mallet will be helpful to get the dowels to get in for attaching the legs - this was the hardest part, very tight fit for the wooden dowels for the legs..
