When we received the planter boxes we were delighted with how they looked. We haave had planter boxes by the steps of our back door for almost 20 years and every few years we need to replace the boxes. In the past the boxes were redwood without any lattice or decorative trim and we never had any comments on how they looked but this year we have had numerous comments on just how beautiful they look. I have purchased many items from Wayfair and been very happy with almost all of them however, these planter boxes were a disaster. The holes for the wooden pegs were not drilled, deep enough or drilled too deep. The pegs broke in half when trying to maneuver the box to put the sides on. Additionally, the very large wood screws that are meant to attach the four sides together were almost impossible to screw into the item and they would not go in all the way. I now have three of these planters including the 39" rectangle. I'm planting root over rock bonsai in them all and that can get quite heavy when it comes time to replant! with this design, I can remove the slats from one side when the time comes and pull the whole composition out on a pizza paddle. I agree with the earlier review to drill screws for the top pieces, I also recommend securing the top boards in place first to make sure the sharp metal edges do not protrude above the wood. looks great poolside.. In the winter, if a planter is to remain planted, it should be raised up off the ground making sure not to block the drainage hole. This allows the planter to drain and will prevent the planter from freezing to the ground. If the planter is not to be planted, it should be brought inside a garage or shed. If this is not possible, follow the steps above, but turn the planter upside down to prevent it from filling with snow and ice. It should then be covered or wrapped with burlap or any absorbent material and then wrapped with dark plastic to prevent it from accumulating moisture.
