We purchased outdoor light fixtures with a mounting base too small to cover the electrical box. These covers were perfect. The plastic layer is of very good quality and didn't scratch when the drill bit scraped against it. The plastic layer covers a metal plate that is stamped with holes (not through the plastic) that match the location of mounting screw holes on the electric box. You just need to drill the holes and supply mounting screws. I carefully mounted the base of the light fixture on the cover (measured and drilled the holes) then the cover on the wall. Only issue was that I wish the outside ring was a little bigger. My original 5" can lights had a ring that went out to a full 6". It was easy to install with the magnets. The light has more lumens and it came with 3000K color temperature selected. My only complaint is that there were no instructions on how to remove the wires if you wanted to change the connection.
