This is a good storage bench. The larger area has an adjustable optional shelf. The cushion is soft enough for extra seating but firm enough to be sturdy. I was able to put it together myself, but it was frustrating at times. Many of the holes aren’t drilled properly, making it hard to screw in things. The two doors for the larger part aren’t close enough, so you can see a space. The thing to lift up the cushion was especially difficult to screw in. For a shoe cabinet at this quality level, I really like it. It holds (and hides) about 12 pairs of women’s shoes, and the mesh racks underneath hold 5-6 more pairs. I assembled it by myself in less than 3 hours. I does require a Phillips head screwdriver - the Phillips head included in a hex-keyscrewdriver combo is useless. I was afraid to use my power drill with a screwdriver bit because of it being particle board, but as you can see in the photos, my hands were sore by the end, so I used it carefully for the last few steps. I had to use it on the step (11) of attaching the leg base to the cabinet, and also for attaching the frame to the bench (step 13) because there were no pre-drilled holes in the bottom of the cushion. I also recommend being VERY careful to pay attention to the figures in the assembly instructions (which are quite small) and to double check before attaching pieces. I had to remove and reattach piece 6 in step 8 because I had attached it backwards. The color of the bench cushion fabric is gray and the cabinet is brown. It would have been better if they matched. Is this a heavy duty piece of furniture No. Is it a sturdy piece if you have small children who could pull in down on top of them No, so you would absolutely want to use the included wall. anchors for safety.
