All metal cactus sculpture. True to height. Looks great in our desert landscape backyard. The problem I had was that upon opening the box, one of the yellow stems was broken off. Took a picture for the return. No problem, Wayfair sent a replacement out immediately. Surprised they didn’t want the broken one returned. They said to 1. keep it, 2. donate it, or 3. throw it away. Well we kept it and my wife just used the broken pieces elsewhere in her garden. To protect it from our blazing sun here, I sprayed it with a clear coat of sun protection. Well-made and -designed statue that is very heavy and attractive. The packaging was carefully designed (volume and placement) except for the head of the statue, causing the head to bump against the box without protection throughout its journey. The photograph shows the indentations and discoloring on the inside of the box caused by the head bumping against it. There was a slight discoloration on the head from this activity, as well. Preserving an art form unique to Oaxaca, the artisans craft this amazing alebrije sculpture of an armadillo. The statue is carved by hand from copal wood and painted with myriad motifs in vibrant colors. The statue makes a great addition to any space. Alebrijes are a relatively recent Mexican art form, attributed to Pedro Linares. Unconscious due to illness in 1936, he was presumed near death and yet his dreams were incredibly vivid. He tells of a place where all was peaceful and quiet until all of a sudden there appeared a lion with an eagle's head, a rooster with bull's horns and a donkey with butterfly wings. They kept screeching 'alebrije, alebrije!' and Pedro began running away. He encountered a man who told him it was not yet his time to be there are, and he should continue running towards the exit. In this dream, Pedro climbed out of a window and regained consciousness.
