I just put this together, but it appears to be a well-made product. It was fairly easy to assemble (I did it alone). There are extra holes drilled into the side beams so you can vary the shelving height. I chose to install them as shown in the photo. I wish that the little hooks they provide could be attached to the top shelf instead of right in the middle. I can't see myself using them since anything hanging from those hooks will be pretty close to the floor. A contemporary update on a traditional design, this solid wood etagere bookcase features two shelves, x-frame side braces, and an open back design. Place this design against the wall beside your television stand and use one shelf to store your DVD collection, and the other to display your favorite reads. Accessorize the shelves with laser-etched hurricane candles, framed family photos, and a vase of freshly-cut daffodils to round out the design.

This is a pretty darn nice, sturdy bookcase which isn't cheap plywood and that's a pleasant surprise at this price point. It fits perfectly between my computer desk and file cabinet where I needed shelfs for reference books. I deducted one star because of a few issues. Maybe I should have deducted two! It took me a little over an hour to put it together myself, mostly because the pictograph instructions aren't the best so I took my time and studied it, then went back to the website to download one of three other PDF instructions that seemed a little easier to follow. Instructions state to screw shelves and braces to both sides of the bookcase and then place the top piece. I've put together pieces with shelves before and I always find that it's easier to screw all pieces into one side, then flip it and attach the other side. Two of the holes were not drilled properly, making it difficult to get the side screws in and one of the shelves wasn't finished properly, having a weird tacky area where it appears the black paint was missed and something sticky was left. At some point, I'll have to give it a light sanding and repaint that shelf, but I don't have time for that nonsense today. Also, the instructions don't tell you that you'll need a rubber mallet to tap in the little plugs that cover the screws, but you will definitely need one to get them seated in properly.. Gloria. Also, assemble this in the place you plan to keep it. The shelves are lined with particle board, which is flimsy but not concerning for me given this unit sits in a dark storage closet.
