My kitchen window is 58 wide by 40 high. I used 5 panels and no valance for the look shown in the photos. I can't comment about the odor neutralizing as I use baking soda in my trash almost daily to ensure an odor-free kitchen. I originally ordered 2 sets for a total of 4 panels, but one panel was sewn closed at the end. In typical Wayfair fashion, I was promptly delivered a new set, hence the odd number of panels..
