I would say they extend approximately halfway, so if you want to store bulky items like winter hoodies or blankets, it may cause a challenge. This is a great piece of sturdy furniture and it really elevates a bedroom! I liked the style so much I bought TWO - one for the master bedroom and one for the guest room. I just moved into a new house 2 weeks ago and Wayfair is delivering daily! I am missing FOUR screws for TWO drawers for FOUR pull knobs but made a quick call to Wayfair Customer Service and they are sending them out to me to finalize the dresser in the guest room. I love the tall dresser. I gave it 4 stars because the handle was warpedbent and I finally gave up and put on a handle I had from my craft supply stash.
