This is nice for what it is. It's not heirloom quality, but it's a good value for the price. Sides are 1/2 in. plywood, and once put together the design makes it sturdy and stable (be sure to use the anti-tipover wall attachment!). I looked at more expensive hardwood shelves, and I even considered making one myself, but with the price of wood these days it just wasn't worth it for me when the kid is going to use it for only 2-3 years before outgrowing it.
