Sitting leaning forward in our sauna isn't comfortable at all for me, even resting my hands/elbows on my legs. I want to relax and leaning back without damaging/staining the sauna is what I wanted. This backrest is perfect. It came perfectly assembled. Is lightweight, and easy to handle. The wood matches the sauna closely, so it looks like it is part of it. Sitting up, it isn't quite perfect because to have any kind of slope, it puts you on the edge of the seat, but lounging in the sauna on the bench, perfect. Before using our sauna backrest, please briefly assemble the headrest. First, adjust the height and angle to your preference. Then align the holes and tighten the screws by hand. Important Tips: Our upgraded screw design allows for tool-free installation—simply tighten with one hand, no wrench needed. For smooth angle adjustment, gently tighten the screw just until it engages; there’s no need to turn it in deeply. The headrest is only fully secure when you’re leaning against the backrest. This is especially useful for infrared saunas and helps protect your skin from burns caused by heating plates. During use, the wooden panel may squeak with adjustments; this is normal. We recommend placing three rectangular towels on the bench, behind the backrest, and under the headrest to further protect the wooden surface.

Works as it should. Definitely made it more comfortable to use the sauna. Only downside is the one bar hits right across your shoulder blades and makes it a little uncomfortable. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Amazing Quality Real Sauna Experience Delivery was fast and professional — they rolled the crate right into my garage. Everything arrived in perfect condition and very well packaged. Assembly took about 12 hours with two people. I’m pretty handy, but having a second person definitely helps. The barrel design goes together logically if you take your time. The cedar wood quality is excellent, and once heated, the smell is incredible — exactly what you expect from a traditional sauna. The 6 kW heater performs great. It heats the sauna to 180°F in about an hour. I prefer higher temps (185°F), and with minor airflow adjustments I’m confident it can reach 185–190°F. Steam over the stones feels strong but comfortable. As a heavy sauna user, I was very satisfied with how my body felt afterward — deep relaxation and a powerful sweat. Energy use seems reasonable for a 6 kW unit. Important tip The heater has a delay timer zone. To start heating immediately, turn the knob clockwise past the delay section and then back slightly into the first heating zone. Otherwise, it will wait before turning on. Also, after about one hour the heater automatically shuts off, so you’ll need to repeat the turn-on procedure if you want to maintain heat longer. Overall, I’m extremely happy with this purchase. Delivered on time. Great communication with the delivery company. Sauna was all there and in perfect condition. About 30 min to install. Had no issues. As noted from other reviewers it takes about 35 min to exceed 130 degrees. I would get in then and about 10 min later it would be over 140. Just as expected. The only thing was that it came in a wide wooden box that couldn't fit through my front gate and the delivery people said they cannot turn the box onto it's side to fit through the front. Love it!!! I paid $1500 to a general contractor to assemble it, took 7 hours and I paid $3500 to an electrician to run 220V to the back yard which took 6 hours. Still more than half the cost of the lowest price given at a local store here in San Diego. Great quality, gets as hot as advertised in about 15 minutes, but San Diego is never cold, so starting temp is always around 70 degrees. The Smartmak sauna I do NOT recommend. The poorly written assembly manual with parts not identified was inadequate. The process of assembly was very poor with no clear photos of the sauna we purchased. I also received many email phishing attempts right after contacting the Smartmak company customer help which was not very good. Wayfair company however I do recommend and will buy again from them..
