The trunk is as it looks. Hinges seem strong but even if they weren't, the wood is so light that it wouldn't hurt fingers. If you are looking for a solid piece of furniture, this isn't it. This looks like a really nice little trunk, straight out of the box, appears to be solid construction. Lightweight, solid bottom, slat design for sides and top, treasure chest style. The chest looks nice. The quality is good. However, the drawers only pull out about half way. Very weird. I thought about returning it but I can make it work. I read the reviews about the drawer problem but still ordered it because I liked it (I don't always trust the reviews). Also, in the product description the drawer dimensions are not listed.
