While we do our best to create a smooth and functional surface, it will not have the uniform finish of new wood. It's perfect for the purpose we needed it: To hold a medium-sized TV but under a window. We didn't want to totally block the window so the height is just right. The wide length makes it easy to shift away from the window if necessary or to be seen from a specific chair in the room. It's very pretty, and solid. We put wicker baskets in the open slots below to hide stuff. The electric cords are easy with the open back. As would be components. I found it funny (not haha. This table is OK. It is just as described, color was accurate and it has a nice weight to it. However, after unboxing I realized a few of the pieces were damaged, but it was too late to return as it would be nearly impossible to box back up. When screwing the pieces together, the paper or laminate rips and cracks, but thankfully those parts are pretty much hidden. Sadly, the damaged sides are in clear view :(. Further inspection of the box showed a hole in it and it clearly looks like a returned item because the tools were missing and a few of the bags of screws were already cut open.
