The trunk is as it looks. Hinges seem strong but even if they weren't, the wood is so light that it wouldn't hurt fingers. If you are looking for a solid piece of furniture, this isn't it. It’s very sturdy and nice dresser. The only issue I have with this dresser is the sliding door. The little bump pieces on the back are a little too big, causing the door to not slide properly will not go all the way to the left or right without it coming off track if you move it normally.
