It is MDF..A step above cardboard. There are gaps in the pieces of the table where its joined together. Like when you see a leaf in the middle. And the base of the table keeps you from your legs going anywhere as they will be hitting the base. It looks good. But you can tell its MDF and not wood.. But I used high end chairs and it looks amazing but I know this table, won't last long. It was easy to put together. And if you want a nice looking table for a good price just get it. It’s beautiful I love it and wasn’t hard to put together at all. Exactly how I imagined it to look. Only thing I would say is stay on top of your delivery because they delivered the wrong package to me first but Wayfair got right on top of it and make sure I got my package.
