The Prestow uses a simple butterfly mechanism - gently pull on either end of the table to 'open' the sliding mechanism and reveal the extension piece concealed under the top. Love the table and the farmhouse look. It's a wonderful size for a small dining area. 6 people can easily fit, even 8 could be squeezed in nicely on board game nights with friends and family. The color oak was nice and the top finish also. Putting everything together was a breeze. The only little comment that we have is that the table cracks when a little weight is put on the ends simply because of the extendable option, so it's to be expected. We added little felt protectors on the legs so we can simply slide the table rather than lifting in order to preserve the sturdiness. Over all very satisfied and pleasantly surprise by the quality..
