We do not add to or take away from any of the natural distressing that has occurred from decades of use. You will see nail holes, screw holes, nails, discoloration, scratches, dents, and many other variations. Each of these markings is a glimpse into the history of your shelves. You may see holes from a mortise and tenon joint or other time-honored wood joining techniques. You may notice where a hinge or hook is used to hang. Our Natural shelves are not stained and the character and color will vary slightly from piece to piece. These thick and sturdy shelves are also available in our Coffee Bean stain and White Wash finish. All marks, knots, cracks, and holes are naturally occurring. With our Natural variation not being stained, the cut ends may be slightly lighter than the rest of the shelf, as cutting exposes the fresh, untouched wood. This adds a lovely contrast to the aging of the rest of the wood and accentuates the character making for a stunning display on your wall! While I love the look of this shelf, the bracket is very lacking and will not hold it level. Most hidden brackets have "arms" that extend out the length of the shelf but this one does not. Therefore, there is very little support and the whole shelf droops in the front. this is pretty simplistic and mine in particular has a crack in the middle (I guess that's a natural thing?) but it works for me for what I needed and is pretty cute, I hung two towels on the hooks and rolled up 1 more towel on each of the middle shelves, then put a faux plant on the top. This amazing set of 2 reclaimed barn wood shelves is handcrafted in Lancaster County, PA, by our local Amish artisan partners. Our natural shelves are not stained, and the character and color will vary slightly from piece to piece. These thick and sturdy shelves are also available in our coffee bean stain and white wash finish. All marks, knots, cracks, and holes are naturally occurring. With our natural variation not being stained, the cut ends may be slightly lighter than the rest of the shelf, as cutting exposes the fresh, untouched wood. This adds a lovely contrast to the aging of the rest of the wood and accentuates the character that makes for a stunning display on your wall.

The wood was not the same shade as pictured. It also comes very “rustic” i.e. rough. You may get a few splinters when handling, so be careful. Also due to the rustic nature the boards are not exactly straight. This can make them appear a bit uneven on the wall. None of these were deal breakers for me. It is a good size in thickness. Our natural variation shelves are not stained and the color can vary from piece to piece. Thick and sturdy with handmade raw metal brackets, these shelves make a stunning display on your wall! Please note that the brackets MUST be mounted into wall studs. ALL mounting hardware is included. Shelves come with set screws that go up throughout the bracket into the bottom of the shelf to eliminate any movement due to any imperfections in the reclaimed wood. I LOVE these shelves. They’re sturdy and can hold a good amount of weight, and they look rustic and rich. The wood has the perfect amount of imperfection with a couple dips and knots.
