I bought this cage for my chicks. I’ve always wanted to raise chickens but never got around to it—until I found this beautiful cage on Wayfair. I ordered it right away, and now I have 15 chicks! Excellent duck coop. Easy to set up with my grand childrens assistance. I added more layers of poultry wire and hardware cloth to the sides and top make break-ins more difficult. Also hardware cloth used as ground floor and apron covered with sod and then pine shavings. Placed the heavy duty XL anti-diggers around the perimeter. We have not had any intrusions in this set-up.. This cage was 'as expected', seems pretty sturdy and was pretty straight forward and easy to put together. Took a little time, I did it by myself, but all the screws and brackets seem solid. using it for a rooster that we need to keep away from the other roosters, so it fulfills our need--with one major flaw. Now, I knew this going in and we remedied it on our own with zip ties and chicken wire, but be aware that the only roof is the vinyl/tent top and that tent top will not keep out a raccoon or other eager predator in any way. We have a tiny 2 x2 coop inside this run that we can lock at night, but do add some kind of chicken wire under the canopy if you plan to rely on it for safety, which can easily be done before you put the canopy on. I wish it came with a secure roof, but from what I am seeing, none of these come with a solid roof, so this will have to do, and it seems to be working out for us.. Daniel. Bloomington, IN. Yay, one step closer to getting our chickens!! We live in the country, so we wanted to make sure our girls would be safe while also making sure they have dedicated shade in our hot summers, and this is perfect. While this was pretty straightforward to put together, just know, you will become one with the zip ties. If you think, "there is no way we'll use that many zip ties", trust me, you will. A tip, once you get the frame up and you're ready to start putting up the wire, have a second person, but don't work on different parts, connect one part of the wire, then work your way to the other side before the other person starts on anything. You'll want someone on the outside of the run and someone inside to do adjustments (stretching and holding the wire, etc). If you try to do both sides at once, you'll have to redo parts...hopefully this helps save you a potential headache. Once it's up, it's great, the shade cloth really makes a big difference in heat!. Great Size and Sturdy Chicken Run I’m really happy with this chicken coop run! It’s a great size and gives my chickens plenty of room to move around, scratch, and enjoy being outside. The setup is spacious, and the overall design is exactly what I was looking for. Assembly took some time, but once everything was put together, it was worth it. I wanted to like this but as soon as I began unfolding it I realized how poorly crafted it is and have no confidence that this would last long, nor do I feel it is sturdy enough to put a living creature for any period of time. Cage was exactly what I expected. We put a nesting box in for our broody chicken and her eggs. I think it will be perfect for when this weekend when chicks are born and they need to go outside. The flock will be able to see them and get use to them. I've never done this before so it will be interesting. The cage went together easily and when our hen is done we are planning on using it to plant clover and let it grow so hens can't eat it before its fully grown. When we're ready we can easily pick it up and move it to start something else to grown that they can't get into until we are ready.
