Panel width is the finished width between the first pleat to the last. At least 2X of fabric width are used to make pleats and folds, which are more gathered than other headings and have permanent sewn-in pleats for a more elegant and aesthetic look.

These curtains look totally primitive, which is exactly what I wanted. They look fantastic in our bedroom. I will say, they have a liner, but they are definately not "room darkening. I'm very happy with the way these look, and they hang nicely. While they do block light, they are not 100% blackout. So, if you are buying them because you like the colors and the pattern, go for it.
