Turned out nice. Had this professionally installed and mounted the post in concrete blocks to give more stability. The metal pieces itself is lightweight aluminum but when connected together it’s sturdy. Only gripe are the shade connector poles. Their means of connecting could be improved because they slide off & disconnect from one another every now & then but so far holds up well with rain when shade is pulled back. This is a great pergola! I love that it provides an area of shade on my back porch without blocking the sunlight coming into my house completely. The roof itself is light filtering, which is great because it’s not completely blacked out. I love the curtains and mash liner so that I can enclose it if I need to or keep it open. The installation itself was not accurate according to the instruction pamphlet. It only needed two people, but took between six and eight hours to assemble. This retractable pergola would have been the perfect solution in my damaged patio enclosure way back 2010. The issue I initially had is the color of the canopy. The color of the canopy is dark gray that is close to black which is as I see in the photo looks is lighter. The reply to my wish to switch this canopy turns disappointing because this is the only one they have. I had it already installed by my paid installer so no way I can return the whole item. I like the materials all in all.. Heavy and strong. I cannot move the box compared to the first one that I ordered in other store which I did not even open because I can tell by the weight of the item shipped. That is the reason why I still make a 4 star review and I accepted the 10% refund to use as remedy and buy a fabric paint that will make the canopy water proof . Water leaks when it rains. I still love this because of being retractable and really fits half of my patio enclosure that has still the screened structure around intact even without the roof that was damaged by the snow storm in 2010. I use my patio as my workshop room and growing plants . I will be buying another one to complete the whole enclosure project. Unfortunately, our HOA requires everything to be approved and it just so happens that where we wanted to place this is not be allowable because of it blocking a Neighbors walking past that we were unaware of. However, I still wanted to submit a review to say that this product seems sturdy and I loved how it had more than one option on how to assemble it freestanding or against the side of a buildinghouse.
