I suppose it was more my fault but what I thought was a blanket was less than the size of a towel. Cute but not worth the price for something so small.. Bridie. Maplewood, NJ. Mon Sep 15 2025

This blanket pays homage to the craft of overshot weaving, brought to America by Scottish Weavers, many who settled in the tiny town of Seven Springs, North Carolina. The squared pattern pays tribute to the intricate patterns of traditional coverlets, hand-loomed on a white warp in the four-harness overshot method. Weavers grew their own flax and cotton, and raised sheep for wool which was hand-carded and colored with natural dyes. Today, their Appalachian artistry is preserved in museums.

A peaked medallion represents Tumalo Mountain, a peak in the High Cascades. Hikers who reach the top of this shield volcano find stunning views of three more volcanic beauties: Three Sisters, Broken Top, and Mount Bachelor. Smaller lines and ridges represent Tumalo State Park near Bend Oregon. This favorite recreation area on the top banks of the Deshuttes River is home to Tumalo Falls, which plunges 97 feet from a weathered basalt ridge.

Lost Trail Pass crosses the border of Idaho and Montana, high in the Bitterroot Mountains. It was near here that the Lewis and Clark Corps of Discovery entered the Bitterroot Valley in September 1805, after successfully traversing the intense mountain terrain.

Spanish crosses, diamond-shaped “eyes” (ojos) and the symbols of the Navajo Four Mountains of Creation are dramatic in any setting. The design reverses from black background to white–an achievement possible only in mills as technologically advanced as Pendleton`s.

Since the early 1900s, Pendleton Woolen Mills has honored America’s National Parks with a collection of distinctive park blankets. Glacier Park National Park Blanket was one of the first. Its historic markings and colors date back to the frontier trading posts. Traders would indicate the weight of the blanket offered in exchange for furs by holding up one finger for each pound. The original blankets incorporated three, four or five black stripes in the design, which indicated the value of the blanket. Colors and variations of the original striped theme have been adapted to reflect distinguishing characteristics of each park and blanket in the collection. National Park Blankets are still woven right here in Pendleton`s Pacific Northwest mills, just as they were nearly 100 years ago.

Patterned after the coveted agates found by lucky beachcombers along a stretch of the Central Oregon Coast—a half day’s drive from Pendleton, where this wool blanket is made.
