I found the directions to be sufficient and was able to assemble the pergola properly, in a reasonable amount of time. Allow most of a day to do it. We love how high the ceiling is on this, it doesn’t block our view of the water from the house. We have a house on a lake and we looked at a lot of pergolas after another shade tent blew away during a storm this spring. We wanted something heavy and this is it! We needed three people to put up the four corner posts and top rails, and we could have used four people. Putting up the initial frame is not a two person job. However, once it gets to the point of needing to put the slats in, one or two people can easily do it. It just takes longer than expected since each slat is screwed in on both ends individually. It looks great, the two roof sides can adjust independently for open and close and the handle is easy to operate. We didn’t get the side curtains, but there’s always a shady section for us to sit as the sun moves around. It’s waterproof in the rain and when the sun goes down we open the slats so we can look up at the sky and stars. We have six armchairs under this and it’s great not having to cover them up each night. The rain doesn’t touch them. This is heavy enough that we have not needed to anchor it but may before winter, since we plan to leave it our year round. Everyone who sees this asks where to get it. They can be confusing and definitely aren’t the clearest, so assembly took quite a bit of time. Just taking inventory of all the pieces across all three boxes took us over an hour! Overall, it took about three separate days to put together, spending roughly 5–6 hours each day. That said, this was assembled by one person, so I think that’s important to keep in mind. With two people, I imagine the process would go much faster. Once it’s up, though, it is SO worth it. The quality is really nice, it looks beautiful, and it has completely transformed our deck. Even with the help of a second person for certain tasks, it took me more than 4 times the estimate in the listing -- and I am pretty experienced at constructing similar things. The product's installation instructions were nicely illustrated, but several parts were mis-labled in the instructions and several of the instructions didn't cover crucial details. More instructions and more explicit details would have been very useful. Some instructions were so ambiguous that I had to try out more than one possibility, going back and re-doing certain things. That is the product manufacturer's fault, though. Wayfair's transaction went very well. They are efficient, speedy, accurate and responsive. One quibble: in the time between placing my order and receiving the shipping confirmation (just a couple of days), the gazebo's price dropped almost $100. This is a great pergola! I love that it provides an area of shade on my back porch without blocking the sunlight coming into my house completely. The roof itself is light filtering, which is great because it’s not completely blacked out. I love the curtains and mash liner so that I can enclose it if I need to or keep it open. The installation itself was not accurate according to the instruction pamphlet. It only needed two people, but took between six and eight hours to assemble. One year ago I bought a cheaper pergola from another company; it had the nylon roof you pull back with a cord, no side screens available. The roof was flimsy and noisy whenever there was a breeze, and if you forgot to close it tight before a rain, the weight of the water was going to tear it . It actually wasn’t 10x10 as advertised, maybe 9x9, and the sun came under the east & west sides, no you were seldom shielded from the sun. So I tried Wayfair after noticing my neighbor’s, got the same one only I ordered the pulldown screens for 2 sides. It also has a louvered metal roof ( huge improvement), we love it! We are in love with this gazebo. It took two of us about 6 hours to build it. Instructions were easy to follow and the gazebo was assembled without major issues. Our roof panels didn't line up exactly with the end cap holes, so we install those after some modifications. I love the hooks at the top of the gazebo to hold party decorations, lights or a ceiling fan. The gazebo is very sturdy and we are having a professional anchor it into the concrete pad for us.
