This is a very sturdy, solid bookcase and fits perfectly in the small entryway to our coastal bedroom. I rated it a 4 because one of the cane panels wasn't stretched tight enough compared to the others so there was a slight bulge. Otherwise, it would have been a 5. The bookcase was fairly easy to put together, though it probably would have gone faster if my dog Unni had not been trying to “help” during assembly. It ended up being a little smaller than I originally expected, but that was on me for not checking the dimensions closely enough before ordering. In the end, it worked out well as a compact bookshelf for the bedroom. One of my favorite features is the built in lighting. The brightness is adjustable, which makes it great for softer nighttime lighting. I personally don’t use the touch slider controls very often because it also comes with a remote, which is honestly really convenient since I can adjust the lights without getting out of bed. Overall, it’s a nice looking shelf with a modern feel and works well for smaller spaces. That said, it made me realize I’ll probably still need to find a larger bookshelf for my living room.. Trisha. I finally pulled the trigger on this shelving unit, as it was the perfect size for an odd-sized wall in a rental house. Overall, the piece is solid but has some flaws indicative of flatpack -- small inconsistencies like visible gaps in a few places where they shouldn't be, visible factory-applied adhesive in a few places, and one shelf with an edge cut slightly crooked to where it was a frustration point during assembly. BluDot has consistently and substantially raised their prices over the past couple of years (this shelf has almost doubled in price), but quality seems as though it is not keeping up with the price point. I purchased the low shelf from the same Open Plan series a couple of years ago and it does not suffer from any of the same issues.
