The 1/2" x 40" x 54" chair mat, for carpet works pretty well. It stays put which is really nice. My chair doesn't sink into it making it hard to roll after sitting in it for a while and it looks pretty nice, too. I do wish it was another four to six inches wider, but the 54" length is good for my desk. For my purpose a mat that was 46" x 60" would be perfect. I’ve only had this product for, like, half an hour, but I really like it. Seems to be good quality and sturdy. I have it on what I’d call medium pile carpet and my chair rolls fine, actually smoother than the cheap plastic thing with teeth I had before. I wish this wasn’t so pricey but I’m happy with what I got, so I can’t complain.
