These whiskey barrel planters are great. Our family has had three more just like them for 16 years. One is used as a small water feature with a bamboo fountain and the other two as traditional planters. Because of the size and material the soil does not dry out too quickly. For these two new ones, I've converted them into self-watering planters using sturdy 22 inch saucers and 1/2 inch solid-braid nylon rope for wicking the water up into the soil. I just opened up the package from wayfair and saw the blue planter i ordered. Very pretty blue, but much bigger ( taller) than i expected. But as i get used to the size i think it will look beautiful on my patio with some smaller pots, and the height allows for roots to expand and plants to GROW nice and large.
