I find this portafilter to be particularly useful for testing extractions on La Specialista machines. I have the touch model, and it works perfectly. After working in a cafe for the summer, trained as a barista, I had to buy an espresso maker for home. This looked like the perfect introductory maker. Worked right out of the box, for sure. I bought a grinder and began working on my dose and yield. Dialing in the timing for extraction is the most difficult part, as you can’t adjust a knob or set a time, you have to manually time the extraction - whether single or double - and set it yourself. So getting back to a previous setting and fine tuning is near impossible. You’ll go through a lot of coffee in this process. I got great creama from the original spouted portafilter, but inconsistent yields. Switching to a bottomless portafilter, I find my grind and pulls definitely have flaws - so starting all over again! The 4-cup espresso and cappuccino machine uses a steam/boiler to quickly heat water until steam is produced. The steam creates pressure to force the water into the filter holder and through the coffee grounds to brew the espresso directly into the glass carafe. When the espresso has reached the bottom line marking on the glass carafe, you can stop the brewing and switch to frothing milk. When you finish frothing, turn the selector switch back to the coffee brewing position. The powerful steam/boiler reduces warm-up time to less than 2 minutes, producing 2 to 4 cappuccinos or lattes in less than 5 minutes.
