Published in both English and German, this unique depiction of New Hampshire in 1796 is a truly authentic piece of cartographical history. Produced by prolific German bookseller Carl Ernst Bohn, this map was created for German Audiences in Hamburg and would have served as a guide for immigrants who were flocking to the newly independent United States. The American Revolution had concluded a decade prior, and Germans would not have a democratic government until 1871. The State motto "Live Free or Die" stemmed from its fiercely independent spirit, and it was the first to establish a Constitution outside of the authority of Great Britain in 1776. New Hampshire's textile mills brought many immigrants from Germany, and the Amoskeag Mill on the banks of the Merrimack River became the largest textile mill in the world for a time. Manchester, NH saw the formation of a tight-knit German community and because New England had a smaller general population than larger cities like Boston, New York, or Philadelphia. These communities became crucial for new immigrants to get on their feet after making the journey to America. Mills in America were able to offer higher pay, and the religious freedom attracted Catholics and Protestants alike. These engravings allow historians to stitch together a deeper understanding of how the unique combination of place and people combine to create cultures. The distinctive aesthetic and style of this map transport the viewer back in time and allow a deeper connection to America's History.

Produced by prolific American cartographer and illustrator Harvey Boardman in 1858, this depiction of the White Mountains of New Hampshire was created to entice tourists to the famed mountains from Boston, New York, and Montreal. With the iconic Mount Washington peak being the highest in the Northeast, these mountains drew hundreds of artists there to paint them in the 19th century and was the setting for noted American author Nathaniel Hawthorne’s short story The Great Carbuncle. Many of the early maps were produced to attract tourists, and the region has long relied on tourism as an economic driver. Depicting roads, carriageways, and local hotels, these maps served as enticements for tourists and noted topographical details as well. Famed for its ski resorts, the White Mountains are home to some of the best slopes in the United States. The conclusion of the famous Appalachian trail starts in the southern portion to the mountains and marks the change from a relatively flat through-hike to more rugged and steep terrain. The trail is one of the longest through hikes in the world and attracts thousands of hikers annually. When combined with unpredictable weather, the highest peaks in the Presidential Range create some of the harshest climates for mountaineering and are used as training grounds for expeditions preparing for K2 and Mount Everest. The Mount Washington Cog Railway is the nation’s first mountain ascending cog railway and is still in operation today. An authentic piece of cartographical history, the distinctive aesthetic transports the viewer back in time.

Produced and published by one of the early pioneers of the form Albert Ruger, this bird's eye perspective of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, shows the town in a period of considerable growth and transition as the nation rebounded from the American Civil War. The industrial revolution drew residents to the region, eager for work in the numerous manufacturing facilities that were flourishing in the late nineteenth century. The first European settlement was established in 1630 on the banks of the Piscataqua River. The area would continue to grow throughout the following centuries as a thriving trade for upstream markets developed. Ruger's work served as marketing materials to attract residents and merchants alike, and panoramic maps were widely popular during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. They bear a distinctive aesthetic, and because they were not illustrated for navigation purposes, they often feature unique artistic flourishes not common with other pieces of cartographical history. The city's location on the Piscataqua across from Kittery, Maine, made it the home of a thriving shipbuilding industry from its early days. It remained a critical part of the Continental Army's Naval Fleet during the American Revolution aiding in the transportation of gunpowder, artillery, and other crucial support like tents and blankets. Bird's eye perspectives immediately transport the viewer back in time, creating a link between the past and present while providing a snapshot of the town's history, evolution, and development. This is a rare piece of late nineteenth-century American cartographical history.
