This Murphy Bed comes in several heavy boxes with a lot of pieces. So it's definitely my recommendation to hire a professional to put it together to save you time and to ensure the product is assembled properly with anchoring to the wall for security. I must say it came together beautifully and will fit our needs for additional modern style storage and sleep space when we have overnight guests. The material is somewhat sturdy manufactured wood which is only noticeable up close. The frame will definitely only fit a 10 inch mattress or less. We tried a 12 in and the main door will not close. As many have mentioned, it would have been great to have shelves inside the cabinet but if you're handy you can easily install some for more storage. I have been shopping around for a quality Murphy bed for quite some time and almost bought a $4000 model but I'm glad I was able to save once I found this one for a fraction of the cost. The finished product is great. The couch is not too comfortable, but functional. I think some pillows and stuff will help. Now, on to a review of the assembly. I hired a pro who had assembled 7-8 Murphy beds previously. It took him 8.5 hours to finish this one! And when I tell you he was working at top speed with maximum efficiency and NO BREAKS, I’m not exaggerating. Just unpacking and sorting the pieces took about 45-60min. Assembly went smoothly for the most part. But the instruction manual had a lot of unclear or just plain wrong guidance. So he had to decipher what was needed throughout the process. He used a lot of his own screws as many of those included were not the appropriate size. The worst part was getting the hydraulics in place. The manual had us attatching the unit to the wall. It was all screwed in and stable. And then the hydraulic installation required that he get BEHIND THE UNIT. There was no way to get them on with it attached to the wall. So he had to detach it from the wall and moved it out so he could get behind there. We even watched the included QRC video for that step, which showed the guy installing the hydraulics with the unit not on the wall. Hopefully this info will help the next person! All in all I’m happy with the product. I put a 6” cool gel foam mattress on it and slept like a rock! I’d give the final product 5 stars. And the manual and instructions 4 stars. If it hadn’t been for the super smart guy who put it together, it would have taken me a week to figure it out! So u less there is a way to give 4.5 stars, I’m going to give it a 4. The quality of wood and the couch is very poor. The lifting mechanism and the push to open mechanism is good. Nearly all panels came scratched. Very difficult to assemble.
