Once assembled, it looks great and works as advertised. As others have noted, it's definitely a project to get put together. The unit comes in 6 boxes and you'll need help for at least 2 of the assembly steps. The bed has to fit flush to the wall (attached to studs) and the instructions call for cutting the baseboard to make this happen. I didn't want to cut the baseboard (rental unit) so I firred out the back of the unit with 1x painted trim although you could also cut a notch in the bottom of the bed cabinet. If your mounting over an electrical outlet you may need to move one of the back supports up or down to clear the outlet. You'll want an outlet available so you can connect the built-in USB port and maybe put up some lights inside the cabinet. There's a gap between the head of the mattress and the wall when the bed is down, so there's no headboard to lean against, just fyi. This Murphy bed is an ideal choice for small apartments. When folded, it can immediately free up a lot of space for daily activities. The outer panel of the bed is cleverly designed, which can be used as a temporary workbench or for placing items. The side of the bed is equipped with sufficient storage shelves, providing a lot of storage space. Whether it is books, decorations, daily clothes or exquisite jewelry, they can be stored neatly and orderly.

This piece takes quite a while to put together and requires at least 2 adults to do it well. The assembly hardware doesn't fit tighly and easily shows because it is a contrasting color. I do not foresee the bookshelves staying in place with heavy use because the stabilizing pegs are too small for the holes. The swinging feet readily loosen every time you put it up or down. It looks great. But price is so high. Make sure you have brick wall in your house because it is very heavy also no instructions for drywall. We are very satisfied with the Farmhouse Murphy Bed. The actual product is well represented online, including the color. It took my husband about 12 hours to assemble by himself. It would go a bit faster with a second person. There were a lot of pieces and he did follow the instructions which were well written. The only reason 4 vs 5 stars due to the following: assembly time (it still would take a while for 2 people to assemble) and the cabinet would look better with screw caps giving it a finished look. No one has slept on it yet, but assume it will be fairly comfortable for guests. We would have gone with a thicker mattress but followed the guidelines to make sure the cabinet would close. The slats seem to support the mattress. We hope the mattress does not slide around too much once someone tries to sleep on it. The bed does have to be weighted down to keep it from rising off the floor if no one is on the bed. See photos showing foot of bed not weighted down and weighted down with ankle weights. We plan to place a side table to offer a night stand. The small shelf looks a bit flimsy, so we will be cautious. I am not very tall and was able to open and close with ease. I had to come back and edit my review because at first when opening the boxes I was pleasantly surprised to to see that it was actually painted solid wood and not veneer or wrapped MDF. As we started putting it together there was imperfections in the pant and the screws were to long and popped through the finished. Writing I rarely write reviews, but this product honestly left me shaken and injured and I feel obligated to warn others. The Murphy bed design is fundamentally unsafe. The piston mechanism that’s supposed to assist with lifting and lowering the bed is unbelievably stiff and completely non-adjustable. It requires two adults to safely pull the bed down, which defeats the entire purpose of having a functional, user-friendly wall bed. There is nothing smooth or controlled about the motion—it feels like you’re fighting against the hardware every single time. What’s worse is that the assembly and installation design makes the situation even more dangerous. You’re expected to put the entire unit together and somehow maneuver it upright and secure it to the wall, yet the bed itself cannot be safely opened or controlled during that process. It creates a hazardous, unpredictable setup where the weight and tension are working against you. In my case, this turned into a nightmare. The bed came crashing down on both me and my daughter. She was incredibly lucky to walk away unhurt, but I wasn’t. I ended up with a bruised pelvis and hip, and a badly injured hand. I was actually pinned between the bed and the frame—it was terrifying and could have been far worse. All I could think afterward was if this had happened to my 7-year-old son instead, the outcome could have been catastrophic. This isn’t just an inconvenience or a minor flaw—this is a serious safety issue. A product like this should never require that much force to operate, nor should it put users in a position where they can be trapped or injured during normal use or installation.
