The standard half hinge is self-latching for secure closure. The floating design compensates for any gate sag. For additional security, a padlock can be used.

It is sturdy and the right proportion for the gate. I’m having the fence installed next week, but I had my installer check it out ahead of time to make sure everything was as it should be prior to the install. very nice match but sadly had to return. My cabinet doors have a beveled edge which prevented each piece of the latch from from meeting flush in the middle. Thankfully, returns are always very easy with Wayfair! I no longer have the latch but am posting a photo of the cabinet doors so you can see that evidently, the doors need to meet flushly ( no bevel ) for the latch to work.
