A series of slats eliminate the need for a box spring, so all you need to get are two mattresses (sold separately).

This arrived quickly. Instructions were easy to follow. Says two people to assemble, would have been faster with two, but I did it alone with some well positioned leaning supports to add bottom rails to sides. My small room couldn’t accomodate a larger size bed so I took a chance. It turned out to be sturdy and attractive. I am pleasantly surprised at the quality of the piece. It is quite heavy as I am sure other daybeds are as well. It came delivered in two boxes, one long one that contained the back and front pieces and the other shorter box had the sides and the slats. Delivery was great. My husband and I unpackaged everything in the garage and brought pieces in separately. It was more manageable that way instead of trying to lift extremely heavy boxes into a small house and room. It definitely takes two people to put it together since the pieces are cumbersome but we did it in a few hours. I bought an 8 inch twin mattress for the trundle and a 10 inch twin mattress for the top. They fit perfectly and the trundle slides underneath with no problem. It is on wheels which makes it very easy. A bag of washers and a bag of screws were missing from the package of hardware for the trundle but we were able to match the missing pieces with our own hardware. The slats for the trundle were much easier to put on as the holes were predrilled for the two end slats and the middle slat. The slats for the upper bed was a bit harder as there were no predrilled holes but we were able to estimate the spacing between them. It helps that all the slats are attached together with a ribbon and you just lay them onto the frame all around the bed and then screw them on.
