The color, listed as black, is more of a very deep matte charcoal gray. But I actually like it a lot. It was kind of a puzzle to put together because there are no words in the instructions, only pictures. There were a few steps that I had to take apart and redo but I got the whole thing put together in under 2 hours. I feel it was adequate build time for this type of item. This turned out to be a better purchase than I had epected. I am 'elderly' and wanted something like this for the end of the peninsula in my kitchen area. It is wonderwful! I also appreciate having extra outlets as I now can use the upper (top) shelf as a buffet (complete with a heating unit because of the outlets) when I entertain.
