I didn’t read about the material. So make sure to read. The chairs are made from recycle plastic. Before knowing I thought it was made of iron or metal. When I took it out the box I was nervous because it feels SO light. I have a big guy and with plastic I was afraid of it bending. But so far so good. It brings a vibe to the room. Two negatives: 1)The chairs at the time I ordered them were advertised as No Assembly - FALSE. I am perfectly capable of assembling items but I find chairs need constant re-tightening. I wanted a screw-less product. 2) One of the four back nuts on just one of the four chairs I ordered misaligned with the provided screw and then twisted out from the back.
