The colors on this piece are vibrant and it is beautiful. I ordered the 22 x 28. This is the third framed artwork I've ordered from them and the only downside to these framed art pieces is the proportion size of the frame to the artwork. The frame is great quality, thick and substantial. But if you are ordering anything smaller than 20" its going to look huge against the picture. On a good note, the framing is awesome; they pay great attention to detail, provide hanging hardware, and even put little plastic pads on the back so it won't scuff your wall when you hang it.. So inspired by seeing the Roman sculpture known as the Esquiline Venus for the first time, British artist Poynter fleshed out his idyllic beauty in a sumptuous court, tying her hair up before her spa bath. Labeled indecent by society patrons of its day, the work was defended by its artist who claimed the forced introduction of drapery would be a prudery which would increase evil. An affectionate portrait of a sweet little girl, Millais' granddaughter Phyllis, who is concentrating intently on creating a bouquet of speedwell wildflowers. The title is from a line of Tennyson's poem, In Memoriam-"The little speedwell's darling blue…" that suggests a longing for spring. In the Victorian meaning of flowers, speedwell means wishing someone good fortune on their journey. At eleven Millias was the youngest student to enter the Royal Academy Schools, and was one of the founding members of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. Embracing historical, literary and naturalist themes, in his later works, Millais added his own brand of realism and used his family as models, selling the images to calendars and advertisements. The authentic stretched canvas replica painting captures the original work's texture, depth of color, and even its subtle brushstrokes, which are applied by hand. With bas-relief organic styling, the multi-tiered, replica European style frame is cast in quality designer resin and highlighted with an aged gold-toned finish. With a provocative, straight-on gaze, crossed legs and a less-than-proper pose for a young woman of her day, this Victorian portrait of the artist's mistress, Elena Vecchi, caused quite a stir when exhibited in Florence by a man generally more known for painting the prominent and fashionable. Though Impressionist images of women reading were a genre amongst themselves, Corcos chose to leave Elena's novels unopened and her intensity evident to convey that her mind was on things other than the printed word. The authentic stretched canvas replica painting captures the original work's texture, depth of color, and even its subtle brushstrokes, which are applied by hand. This is the drowning Ophelia from Shakespeare's play Hamlet. Picking flowers she slips and falls into a stream. Mad with grief after her father's murder by Hamlet, her lover, she allows herself to die. The flowers she holds are symbolic: the poppy means death, daisies innocence and pansies love in vain. The painting was regarded in its day as one of the most accurate and elaborate studies of nature ever made. The background was painted from life by the Hogsmill river in Surrey. Elizabeth Siddal posed for Ophelia in a bath of water kept warm by lamps underneath.
