I was concerned about the weight of this floating shelf. It seemed strange to mount something so heavy to a wall since most of the items I will display on it won't weigh as much as the shelf on its own. There is a metal mounting bracket that you at first mount on the wall using the included screws. I had to screw holes in this bracket to match the width of the studs in the wall I planned to mount it to. Once the bracket was mounted on the wall, the shelf slides onto the lip easily. I am using this shelf as a makeshift mantel. The shelf is quite heavy and it feels like petrified wood. Overall it is a very attractive shelf and makes for an attractive fireplace mantel.. Richard. If you're looking for something richer in color than maple, but not as dark as walnut, this stunning species is for you! Mostly these will have a live edge with a varying depth of around 6" - 9". They all have their own beautiful and unique character, and will always be created from kiln dried chestnut. Some will have curl, knots, and/or spalting, and no two will look exactly the same. If you order multiple shelves in one order, we will create them from the same slab or same log so they look similar and complement each other. These narrow wood shelves are custom, handcrafted, and made-to-order. The images are just examples of ones we've done to help you visualize the finished piece.

It is a very nice shelf but I thought it would be 12” deep for the entire length of the shelf and there is just the middle spot that maybe reach 12” the other part of the shelf are around 8-9” at the most. This gorgeous set of 2 shelves is handcrafted in Lancaster County, PA by our local Amish artisan partners. At 11" deep, they are perfect for your dishes. The wood is reclaimed barn rafter and has all of the characteristics that you would expect from reclaimed barn wood. Thick and sturdy with handmade raw metal brackets that wrap up around the front of the shelf. Please note that the brackets must be mounted into wall studs. Mounting hardware is included. Shelves come with set screws that go up throughout the bracket into the bottom of the shelf to eliminate any movement due to any imperfections in the reclaimed wood. Reclaimed wood is not perfect.

Love it! Looks just as pictured. Took a way one star as it was rather challenging to install. The bolts that prevent it from sliding away from the wall did not line up.
