This is the best idea ever, I love it! I was not thrilled about a dark color so I took fabric and glue gunned it all around the wood pieces after I assembled most of it, their was enough room to do this and it worked great. I used a soft upholstry fabric and also laid batting on the broad surfaces. The mechanism works great and does not shut unless you pull it down. I am obsessed with this bed. I did do this partly by myself and that was easy up until adding the side panels to the headboard and then my husband let me use his tools instead of the tiny little "L" thing they include with the kit. It arrived in 2 weeks after purchase. Well packed and efficiently delivered. No damages. I took off a star because of a few issues 1) the assembly instructions are inconsistent. The corner where the sideboards and the headboard connect have two bolts. The instructions implye that they should be at the same level, such that the corner adapter can slide in hand fasten them together .However they were not. 2) one of the groves on the metal frame could not geip the screw provided. This platform bed brings an ultra-modern look to your bedroom with its low-profile silhouette and clean lines. Best of all, the included slats eliminate the need for a box spring, and they directly support a fitting mattress of your choice (sold separately).

5 stars for the bed but unfortunately, the experience took much longer than it should have. Our first delivery arrived incomplete, with only two pieces of wood—more than half of the bed was missing. We had to return it, and a full replacement shipment was sent, which delayed everything, including our assembly (which, of course, we still had to pay for). The new shipment did arrive with all the parts, but we also noticed some chipping and damage on the side. At that point, we decided to keep it because we were tired of going back and forth.
