The bottom cushion is very firm, almost overstuffed and the back cushion is very soft. So when you sit down, you create an opening between the top cushion and bottom cushion of at least 1-2 inches. You can touch the back wood of the chair with your fingers. My low back was not supported at all then. Tried adding a small pillow and that made it somewhat better. Very deep seat which is nice if you’re putting your feet up, but otherwise my feet did not touch the ground (5 ft 6 in). I am very happy with my chairs. The size and color are just as expected. I did order samples of upholstery, which I highly recommend. By doing so, as seen in the photos, I was able to match very closely with my footstools. The seaming is beautifully done. HOWEVER, the reason for my four stars, is that the seat cushion extends several inches over the edge of the chair as seen in the photo. I’m quite sure this will affect how the seat wears over time.. What I will say again is to please order the Archetype Hemp fabric sample before you order the arm chair, sofa or ottoman. As the fabric appears much lighter in photos. You may find the photos I have of the sofa to be closer to what the actual color is. Lighting makes a very big difference in the overall look of these furniture pieces.
