Most of the assembly was easy, though getting the footboard spindles to line up and fall into place in the lower rail was a challenge. I got these for our guest room with the matching dresser. The quality of the night stand was excellent. I love the spindles. I purchased the dark brown. The directions to assemble are pictures but I found them easy to follow. I recommend that you install the lower shelf when you are putting the two side pieces together rather than later as the directions indicate.
