I am obsessed with this bed. I did do this partly by myself and that was easy up until adding the side panels to the headboard and then my husband let me use his tools instead of the tiny little "L" thing they include with the kit. Wow! Apologies for not staging the bed better for these photos, but the bed is exactly as pictured, it’s solid, it sits up high, and the storage underneath is amazing. This is in my son‘s room and we were a little worried about the hydraulic system if he were to get into it, but you need to be taller and stronger to lift it up as soon as you put the initial pressure on the lift, it comes right up easily. Closing the hydraulic lift is the same process… You give it quite a bit of a push before it smoothly goes down. This is the best idea ever, I love it! I was not thrilled about a dark color so I took fabric and glue gunned it all around the wood pieces after I assembled most of it, their was enough room to do this and it worked great. I used a soft upholstry fabric and also laid batting on the broad surfaces. The mechanism works great and does not shut unless you pull it down. It arrived in 2 weeks after purchase. Well packed and efficiently delivered. No damages. I took off a star because of a few issues 1) the assembly instructions are inconsistent. The corner where the sideboards and the headboard connect have two bolts. The instructions implye that they should be at the same level, such that the corner adapter can slide in hand fasten them together .However they were not. 2) one of the groves on the metal frame could not geip the screw provided. Item is exactly as described. My husband was able to assemble it himself without any complaints. I also went with a thicker mattress 16 inches. The hydraulics still work without any issue. I do wish it was taller. That would be way better storage and it would look more expensive. I’d say the top of the back frame reaches my chest level and I am 53. The color is not as all of as the photo maybe a little bit more emerald but if you brush it in different directions, it can go either way. Also, when I lift the mattress, it takes a good amount of strength, so I don’t have to worry about little ones lifting and smashing their fingers. You absolutely must put in the effort to lift..
