The trunk is as it looks. Hinges seem strong but even if they weren't, the wood is so light that it wouldn't hurt fingers. If you are looking for a solid piece of furniture, this isn't it. The trunk arrived nicely wrapped And boxed. But there were some issues. One of the planks in front had to be hammered back together.
