Dating back for over six hundred years, the Thiers region of France is renowned for its excellence in knife making. Au Nain’s Prince Gastronome steak knives are meticulously handcrafted in the bucolic hills of southern France, where each knife is individually handmade by local artisans using time-honoured craftsmanship, preserving the tradition of high-quality knife making. Featuring rosewood handles with three gold brass rivets and a gold brass bolster, these knives are gorgeous. The razor-sharp stainless-steel blades cut steak with an easy efficiency while the curvature of the knife feels well balanced and is comfortable to hold. Made with impeccable craftsmanship, the quality of these knives is undeniable and come housed in a beautiful box ideal for storage and if the current owner’s great-grandfather, Gaston Saint-Joanis. When his main competitor boasted of being the “Giant of the knife”, the imposing 6’5’’ Saint-Joanis replied with characteristic humour and panache by creating the brand “Au Nain” ... the dwarf! And that is how this giant of the French cutlery business was born! Four generations later, Au Nain has established its reputation with consumers around the world who demand high standards from their hand-made stainless-steel knives and utensils.

The steak knives are absolutely beautiful! The packaging was elegant, and they look stunning in my kitchen. They feel like a perfect fit with my style. I haven’t had the chance to try them on steak yet, but so far I’m very impressed with the quality and presentation.. Lana. Miami. Sun Sep 07 2025

Whether your style is formal or casual, you'll appreciate the superb Lenox artistry and craftsmanship in this stainless flatware set. Truly a jewel for your table decor.

The silverware is BEAUTIFUL - but I ordered several sets and all but one was missing at least one piece of the set. Took three tries for replacement to get them, and still short some pieces but I accepted a partial refund and was DONE dealing with it. I was guaranteed that the replacement silverware sets would be checked to be sure all pieces were there, but that obviously didn't happen... they pretty much made it right (except still missing a couple of pieces/refunded) but it was quite a hassle!. We bought a full set plus extra teaspoons and tablespoons; but over the course of time pieces are missing. A spoon here, a spoon there. Was suggested by my primary doctor to get a weighted set because of my slight tremor in my hands. With this flatware and a small dose of medication things are doing well. Serve your guests in impeccable style with this flatware set. Ribbed handles make a rustic serving statement for any casual or formal gathering.

Think shape/design is beautiful. Takes a little getting used to "size" and weight of this flatware. I was surprised that the knife cutting edge is placed on the tip and not all the way down the blade...that actually gets a bit thick. Cutting banana was when I realized this. Tip of knife is fine. Overall...really like this flatware.. Wells. NM. Tue May 12 2020

Introduced in 1941, the pattern captures classic symbols of the Renaissance in the exquisitely carved pillar and acanthus leaf.
